Heiter golden milk for everyone: the perfect autumn drink

October 10, 2021 by Katharina Geissler-Evans in Heiter recipes

My friend Becky Cole shared a lovely golden milk recipe last year. I’ve adapted it a bit and it’s been one of my “colder temperature” favourites ever since. I am so glad I get to share the warming drink with you today.

Ingredients for the golden milk paste:

  • 120ml water

  • 35g ground tumeric

  • 1 1/2 tsp freshly groud black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp ginger powder

  • 80g coconut oil (melted and at room temperature)

  • 100g honey or maple syrup

1) Mix the powdery ingredients with the water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Let it simmer for up to 10 minutes. Set aside to cool down for about 5 minutes.

2) Add the melted coconut oil and continue stirring until all ingredients are properly mixed together.

3) Once the paste has cooled down to body temperature, add in the honey or maple syrup. Stir everything until the mixture is “paste-like”.

4) Pour the paste into a clean (sterilised) jar and leave to cool for about an hour. Seal the jar and place it in the fridge (ideally, stir the paste a few times over the course of several hours until it solidifies).

5) You can store the paste in your fridge for up to four weeks.

For the actual drink (once you use the paste) you also need:

  • plant milk: my favourite is oat milk but I also like coconut and almond for this recipe

  • optional: freshly grated ginger

  • optional: maple syrup or honey for a bit more sweetness

1) Warm up the milk over medium heat and add 1 tsp of your golden milk paste (if you make more than 1 portion of golden milk, add 1 tsp per mug).

2) Wisk the milk until the paste is disolved.

3) If you’d like add a tiny bit of freshly grated ginger to your drink. If you’d like a bit more sweetness, add a bit of honey or maply syrup.

4) Pour into your favourite mug & enjoy.

Wishing you all a very heiter autumn!

#heiterautumn

October 15, 2017 by Katharina Geissler-Evans in Daily heiter

When it’s dark outside and the fog gently lingers on the horizon, you know Autumn has finally arrived. The temperatures drop and one feels like enjoying cosy hours at home. Others admire the broad autumnal colour palette, the seasonal fruit and the crisp air in the morning. It doesn’t matter how you look at it but it feels like there is some sort of cheery mood around. It is for that reason that I decided to delve deeper into the things that make Autumn heiter. What makes your Autumn cheerful? Have you had a chance to think about it? Is it the rustling sound of leaves or the collecting of conkers and pinecones? Is it slow afternoons at home with your loved one? All those things certainly add to my Heiterkeit (cheerfulness) this season. When the hashtag #heiterautumn was introduced on Instagram a few weeks ago, fellow autumnalists gave input and explained what they associate with the theme. Here are the ten most popular suggestions. Hope they inspire you and infuse your day with beautiful heiter moments.

A heiter Autumn means…

1)      …to sit in front of the fire with a cup of tea.

2)      …to read a good book in candlelight.

3)      …to have breakfast outside wrapped up in a blanket.

4)      …large colourful scarves.

5)      …woolen socks and warm feet.

6)      …to chat with your best friend over a cup of hot chocolate.

7)      …freshly baked apple crumble.

8)      …warming soup.

9)      …harvesting grapes.

10)   …carving pumpkin faces.
